Here's the good news nobody tells you: adding a chatbot to your website usually takes about five minutes and zero coding skills. You paste one line of code in the right spot, hit save, and it shows up on every page.

Step 1: Get Your Chatbot's Code

Your chatbot provider gives you a short snippet that looks something like this: a single script line with your bot's ID. With The Chat-alysts, we send it to you ready to paste. Still comparing options? Read how much an AI chatbot costs.

Step 2: Paste It Into Your Website

  • WordPress: install a header and footer code plugin like WPCode, then paste the snippet into the Footer section.
  • Wix: go to Settings, then Custom Code, and add it to the body end on all pages. Wix's guide: Embedding Custom Code on Your Site.
  • Squarespace: use Code Injection and paste it into the Footer. Squarespace's guide: Using Code Injection.
  • GoHighLevel: open your site or funnel settings and paste it into the footer tracking code / custom code area.
  • Shopify: edit your theme code and paste it just before the closing body tag in theme.liquid (or use your theme's custom code setting).
  • Custom website: paste it just before the closing </body> tag on every page, or in your shared layout file.

Some features, like custom code, may require a paid plan on your website builder.

Step 3: Test It

  • Open your site in a private browser window and look for the chat button in the corner
  • Ask it your three most common customer questions
  • Try it on your phone too
  • Send a test lead and make sure it reaches your inbox or CRM

Step 4: Keep It Updated

A chatbot is only as good as its information. When your prices, hours or services change, update the assistant the same day. With our plans, you just tell us and we handle it. Not sure a chatbot is right for you yet? Read is an AI chatbot worth it for a small business.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a developer to add a chatbot? +

Usually not. Most website builders let you paste a small code snippet into a footer or custom code setting.

Will a chatbot slow down my website? +

A well-built widget loads after your page and only opens the full chat when someone clicks, so the impact is minimal.

Does it work on mobile? +

Yes. Our chat window opens full-screen on phones for easy typing.
